It’s all about tuning and timing

Listen to this blog post:

I was recently at a music concert at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, California with a friend of mine who is a Hollywood actress. It was a concert featuring Robby Krieger of the Doors and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

Billy Gibbons said during the concert being a good performer depends on the “tuning” of your guitar and your “timing” playing on time with the rest of the band.

“It’s all about tuning and timing.”

Like good music, a good life for you emerges when you are both in tune and on time.

Tuning: Calibrating Your Own Inner Instrument

For guitar music, tuning is not optional, it is required before every performance.

In life, you often try to “play” your own music without ever checking your own alignment and your own tuning to your own intuition.

Your intuition as your “first sense,” the sense you should rely on and use most often in your life before you use any of your other five senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.

Intuition is defined as “an inner sensing, inner insight to unconscious recognition of energetic patterns and the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning.”

Your Intuition emanates from the energy of a Higher Power and provides you with Divine guidance and Divine intelligence.

Your Intuition is not mystical.  It is your own base truth your own pattern recognition of your truths sensed by your experience and your own attention.

  1. Your Intuition provides you with clear, viable and peaceful solutions to challenges you are currently facing.
  2. Your Intuition provides you with inspired, specific and direct actions you can take so you can create forward movement.
  3. Your Intuition assists you in attracting supportive, collaborative and mindful people, situations and events in your life.

Regular tuning into your own intuition requires quiet, self-reflection, and self-recognition.

Remember, professional musicians tune their guitars before every performance and often re-tune during their performances.

You should apply the same tuning standard to your intuition.

Timing: Acting Upon your Intuition at the Right Moment.

Timing is about your preparation intersecting with opportunities presented to you in your own life.

Timing is often misunderstood as speed.

You are praised with those who “move fast,” “jump early,” or “strike first,” yet speed without preparation rarely produces lasting results.

In both music and life, bad timing by entering too early is just as disruptive as entering too late.

Timing is about understanding your current life situation and acting at exactly the precise moment.

  • One way to practice timing in your own life is to use a framework based on the SMART acronym, created by George Doran and others.  A framework for personal growth based on SMART acronym framework includes creating personal growth actions that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound.
  • Specific – define a desired area for personal growth for you.
  • Measurable – define measurements and indicators of your progress.
  • Attainable – select actions and an end goal that is realistically achievable for you.
  • Relevant – define what results can realistically be achieved, given your available resources.
  • Time-bound – specify a time and date, a time limit when your results can be achieved.

Preparation is internal.
It is the quiet accumulation of clarity, skill, emotional stability, and self-trust. Preparation occurs when you have done enough inner work to recognize an opportunity with your intuition without needing it to announce itself loudly. It is why two people can encounter the same situation at the same moment one feels overwhelmed, the other feels called.

Opportunity is external.
It appears as a conversation, an invitation, a coincidence, or a problem that suddenly needs solving. Opportunities are rarely dramatic. More often, opportunities arrive disguised as inconvenience, uncertainty, or risk. They do not wait for perfect conditions; they simply pass through.

Timing happens at the intersection of these two forces, preparation and opportunity.

Intuition tells you what matters. Timing determines when your intuition matters enough to act on opportunities in your own life.

How do you practice tunning and timing in your own life?

  1. Tuning: Understand Your and Use Your Intuition Daily.  Your Intuition is that gut-feeling, that warm-feeling in your heart-space, that ah-hah moment or something that just pops into your head, without you having been thinking about it, but is something you just know, is true and correct. Your Intuition is your inner guidance system, that operates on a vibration and frequency of truth and love and helps you stay authentic and in integrity with your soul plan. Your intuition always provides feelings of clarity and distinctness and never provides feelings of anxiety, confusion or ambiguity.
  2. Timing: Act Upon Your Intuition at the Precise Moment:  Timing is not universal; it is situational. You have enough clarity to move forward, enough capacity to absorb risk, and enough flexibility to adapt if the outcome changes. The same opportunity can be right for one person and wrong for another, not because of capability, but because of the tuning. Understanding timing begins with an honest assessment of the tuning of your current life conditions.  Acting too early often means the structure is not yet strong enough to support the decision. Acting too late usually means the structure has already shifted. Precision comes from knowing which is true when the moment is exactly right so you are successful.

When you tune yourself carefully to your own intuition, pay attention to your own timing, and when the moment arrives, enter your own song, you can create a positive impact in your own life.
