Persistence

LISTEN TO THIS BLOG POST:

Persistence.

I was going through a divorce in 2002 and moved into an apartment at that time.

I bought the night light in the picture in 2002 when my two children were in grade school.

The night light includes two coconut trees and for me it represented my two children.

I love the coconut theme and I even named my publishing company Coconut Avenue.

This night light has been in the bathrooms used by my children in two apartments I lived in during the course of my divorce.

It provided a consistent source of comfort each night when my children stayed with me during the divorce.

This night light is still being used in the bathroom my children used in my house.

I just never removed it.

Both of my children are now adults.

Both have graduated from college, both the University of Wisconsin and are now living on their own.

This night light has been shining brightly for 22 years.

This night light has been a persistent source of light, lighting the way in the darkness for over two decades.

Persistence is a powerful trait that leads to many positive outcomes in both your personal and professional life.

Persistence can add significant hope and light to your personal and professional life.

“I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying. Be persistent and stay committed.”

Jeff Bezos – Founder of Amazon.com

What are a few of the benefits of being persistent in your own life?

  1. Overcoming Obstacles: Persistence is the key to overcoming adversity. When faced with difficulties, persistent individuals are more likely to experiment with different solutions and learn from setbacks, which eventually leads to major successes.
  2. Achieving Goals: Persistence is crucial for achieving long-term goals. It allows you to stay committed to your objectives despite challenges and delays. This commitment is often what separates those of you that achieve your goals from those of you who give up.
  3. Developing Resilience: Being persistent helps you develop resilience by adapting to unforeseen circumstances and recovering quickly from setbacks. This resilience is valuable in navigating the ups and downs of your life.
  4. Building Expertise: Persistence enables continuous learning and skill development. By consistently putting efforts into a specific area, you gradually build expertise and confidence, which can open up new opportunities and recognition in your personal and professional life.
  5. Fostering Self-Esteem: Each small victory achieved through persistence boots your self-esteem and leaves you in an empowered state. You begin to trust in your abilities and in your capacity to influence outcomes, which in turn can lead to a more fulfilling life.
  6. Inspiring Others: Persistent individuals often inspire those around them. Witnessing someone work diligently towards your own goals and being persistent can motivate others to pursue their own ambitions with greater dedication.

Persistence is not just about stubbornly sticking to goals but instead is about adapting and persevering with a clear defined purpose.

Persistence is about learning from every step of the journey and staying committed to gradual change until you reach your destination and create a positive impact in your own life.
